BIR extends deadline for online businesses to register and pay taxes from 31 August 2020 to 30 September 2020
Client Alert - 30 July 2020 (updated on 2 September 2020)
In Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 60-2020 ("RMC 60-2020"), the Bureau of Internal Revenue ("BIR") required online businesses to register and pay taxes corresponding to their past taxable transactions by 31 July 2020. We explained RMC 60-2020 in our previous client alert here.
The BIR issued Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 75-2020 extending the deadline from 31 July 2020 to 31 August 2020. This is in light of the difficulties posed by COVID-19 to visit the BIR's district offices. The BIR again extended the deadline from 31 August 2020 to 30 September 2020 in Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 92-2020.
The new deadlines are as follows:
Action | Original deadline | New deadline |
Register and/or update the registration status of the online business with the BIR |
31 August 2020 |
30 September 2020 |
Voluntarily declare past taxable transactions and pay the corresponding taxes |
31 August 2020 |
30 September 2020 |
Any business that fails to comply with the registration/update requirements and/or fails to pay taxes for past taxable transactions beyond September 30 will be penalized as provided under the Tax Code.
