The Supreme Court recently released A.M. No. 20-07-04-SC (otherwise known as the “2020 Interim Rules on Remote Notarization of Paper Documents”) (the “Rules”) allowing the remote notarization of documents. The Rules became effective last August 16.

Our Partner Lawyer, the Law Firm of Talampas and Associates, prepared this helpful infographic summarizing the process for remote notarization. In summary, remote notarization is a 4-step process:

  1. Record a video clip of you signing the document to be notarized.
  2. Send the video clip and the signed document to the notary public via courier (i.e. Grab, Mr. Speedy, Lalamove).
  3. Schedule and attend a quick video conferencing session with the notary public. The purpose of the video conferencing session is for the notary public to verify your identity. Both you and the notary public should be in the same city while doing the video conferencing session.
  4. Finally, the notary public will send back to you the notarized document via courier (i.e. Grab, Mr. Speedy, Lalamove).
